Wis. judge rules disciplinary record of former officer can be released

The Associated Press

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. A judge in Sheboygan County says the public's right to know supersedes the privacy concerns of a former police officer.

Ron Jost wanted a court injunction to prevent his disciplinary records from being released. He resigned from the Sheboygan Police Department in 1999 after two internal investigations. Jost is now an officer in Cleveland (Wis).

A Valders woman wants all documents relating to Jost's resignation and alleged misconduct while he was a Sheboygan officer.

Jost says the records are "highly personal, inflammatory and otherwise prejudicial" and would seriously harm his reputation if released.

He has 20 days to appeal.
