LOS ANGELES — A former Los Angeles police officer charged with killing a man while off-duty was returned Thursday to California from Texas.

Henry Solis was escorted by detectives and booked into Pomona’s jail, authorities said.

His return came on the same day a jury in Texas found his father, Victor Manuel Solis, guilty of making false statements to the FBI to prevent authorities from finding his son.

Victor Manuel Solis will be sentenced in August.

Pomona police Lt. Hector Rodriguez said 27-year-old Henry Solis will be arraigned Friday. After that, he’ll be taken to Los Angeles County jail to await a preliminary hearing.

Henry Solis was arrested last week in Mexico after evading authorities for more than two months. He was sought in the shooting death of 23-year-old Salome Rodriguez following a dispute at a nightclub in March.

According to an affidavit from an FBI agent, Henry Solis called his father’s house the day of the killing. A short time later the elder Solis left in a hurry.

In an FBI interview, Victor Manuel Solis said his son said he had five vacation days and wanted to go to El Paso. When he arrived in El Paso, the elder Solis said he dropped his son off at a bus station and his son did not tell him where he was going.

Victor Manuel Solis told the agent he later crossed a pedestrian border bridge alone into Mexico and returned to El Paso in the evening.

Surveillance video captured him crossing with his son, according to the affidavit.
