BIRMINGHAM, Ala. A Birmingham police officer was shot and killed Saturday night after an argument outside a convenience store.

Al.com reports five-and-a-half year Birmingham Police Department veteran Keary Hollis was gunned down after accidentally backing his vehicle into a suspect’s motorcycle, knocking it over.

The two got into an argument, and the suspect opened fire as Officer Hollis was pulling out of the parking lot, firing four shots.

The fatal shooting triggered a massive manhunt overnight, resulting in the arrest of the suspect around 2 a.m., according to the report.

“We did everything we could to save him, but unfortunately he lost his life,” said Birmingham police Chief A.C. Roper. “We just ask for thoughts and prayers for the officer’s family.”
