DALLAS — An off-duty Dallas police officer was attacked after telling people to leave the pool area at a Far North Dallas apartment complex Thursday night, authorities say.

Officers were called about 9 p.m. to a report of a disturbance at the complex in the 4300 block of Horizon North Parkway, near West Plano Parkway and the Dallas North Tollway.

According to police, the officer was in plain clothes and was working for the complex at the time. He said that he had been attacked from behind by four men after telling people at the pool that they needed to leave.

The officer was later taken to a hospital for evaluation.

No suspects have been arrested, police said.

Mike Mata, head of the Dallas Police Association, told WFAA-TV (Channel 8) that an attack on an officer erodes the relationship between police and the community.

“It’s very unfortunate that an officer attempting to do his job was attacked in this manner for nothing else but being a police officer,” Mata told the station.
