SANIBEL, Fla. — A Florida officer died on Monday after he collapsed during a training exercise.
According to News-Press, Officer Anthony Neri died of natural causes after collapsing and being taken to a local hospital.
Neri joined the Sanibel Police Department in 2012 as a police aide and was promoted to an officer three years later. Prior to working with the department, he worked as a revenue officer with the U.S. Department of Treasury for 30 years and an officer with Union Township, New Jersey Police Department.
The 63-year-old is the second officer in southwest Florida to die during a training exercise this year.
