ALBANY — A state trooper has died of injuries suffered when his cruiser was hit by a tractor-trailer Monday night on the Thruway near Amsterdam.
David Cunniff, 35, was parked behind another vehicle on the highway’s shoulder after making a traffic stop when a tractor trailer driven by Gary Blakley hit both vehicles, according to the Times Union.
The other motorist, Eric Heller, who’d been pulled over for speeding, was taken to the hospital in fair condition.
Cunniff, a nine year veteran assigned to troop T’s Fultonville barracks, was pronounced dead Tuesday morning. He leaves behind a wife and two young boys, according to the report.
“All our hopes and prayers are with the family at this terrible time,” Superintendent Joseph D’Amico said.
