OPELIKA, Ala. — Opelika police released dash camera footage from a fatal officer-involved shooting after a grand jury declined to indict the officer, AL.com reported.
The suspect, 56-year-old Bernardo Tignor, was killed after he resisted arrest and brandished a firearm, Chief John H. McEachern III told the publication. The shooting was found to be justified.
The Oct. 31 incident occurred when Officer Jared Greer attempted to stop Tignor in his vehicle, but he refused to pull over, drove into a private driveway and attempted to enter the residence. Tignor refused to comply with Greer’s commands and resisted arrest.
During the struggle, Tignor pulled out a small caliber pistol. Fearing for his life, Greer drew his weapon and shot Tignor several times.
The chief thanked authorities for the speedy investigation into the matter.
