LOWELL, Mass. — Massachusetts police say a man wanted for the death of a police officer in the Dominican Republic has been arrested.
Fifty-nine-year-old Ramon Aguasviva-Mejia, of Lawrence, was being held overnight at the Lowell police station Sunday on detainers from Interpol and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and on numerous local charges.
A police spokesman says the suspect didn’t have a lawyer come to the police station and probably won’t see one until his arraignment Tuesday. Police say he has 17 aliases and outstanding warrants from Suffolk Superior Court for drug distribution and Quincy District Court for felony assault.
Police say he was spotted by detectives about 2 p.m. and fled in a vehicle when they approached. The detectives were able to stop his vehicle and take him into custody at gunpoint.
