LAURENS COUNTY, S.C. — A trooper has been suspended without pay following the June 25 arrest of an NFL player for speeding, an incident which was caught on dash cam footage and has been released.
According to WJBF, South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. R.S. Salter stopped NFL player Sam Montgomery for going 89 mph in a 55 mph zone June 25.
Police are allowed to arrest individuals going faster than 25 mph over the speed limit in South Carolina.
The South Carolina Department of Public Safety released a statement Monday regarding the incident and subsequent investigation, stating that while Trooper Salter was within the law to arrest Montgomery, “Salter’s behavior during the traffic stop of Mr. Montgomery was not representative of the professionalism displayed by our troopers and officers every day around the state.”
Montgomery was released from jail on bond Wednesday.
