Officials say an investigation is ongoing and did not release the officer’s condition

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Hours after a peaceful demonstration outside the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and Duval County Jail, groups of people took violent action against Jacksonville Police and other first responders.

One officer was stabbed or slashed in the neck, according to Sheriff Mike Williams. The officer’s condition was not provided.

At least one JSO cruiser was on fire, and others were damaged when people jumped on top of them.

Sheriff Williams said the original protest was peaceful. But at approximately 6:30 pm, around 200 people began to ‘confront police officers, throw rocks and vandalize police cars’.
