There is no such thing as a routine call

There is no such thing as a routine call — not yesterday, not today, not tomorrow, not ever.

We have all heard of the domestic incident or traffic incident or loitering call. We have handled these types of complaints more than we care to count. So why are they not just another routine call?

Think of the building checks you made night after night without incident just another routine trip around the block — routine right? No it’s not! Just because nothing happened and you made it through another shift without incident doesn’t mean the next call will be the same.

We as police officers work in a world of unknowns we never know what is head until we get there. We operate from behind the curve never seeing what’s behind the door in a dark hallway. We can’t see who’s on the roof of a building watching us pull up to check it out.

Never routine (ever).

We’ve already lost two brothers in 2016 to gunfire. So let’s stay professional, let’s stay vigilant and always tactical.

Never come to work with the intention of hurting anyone. Just come to work prepared to do so if necessary.

We have every right to protect and serve the public and that certainly includes our own lives as well.

The climate toward law enforcement is not what the media wants everyone to believe — it’s only a small faction of society making all the noise and getting all the attention.

Be prepared to fight for your life on every call. If you don’t have to fine but be ready next time.

God bless you all and your families too.
