PORTLAND, Ore. — Officials released video Wednesday of a Christmas Day shooting that critically wounded Trooper Nic Cederberg.

Police responded to reports of gunshots at a home on Christmas Day and found a woman dead in the home, KGW reported. Police witnessed James Tylka, 30, fleeing the scene and pursued him until Tylka exited the vehicle and exchanged gunfire with Trooper Nic Cederberg.

According to KOIN, investigators found that Tylka retrieved Cederberg’s weapon and fired more shots while the trooper was down.

Backup arrived and discovered Tylka was armed and hiding in vegetation on an embankment. Reports said Tylka aimed the weapon at officers and they opened fire in self-defense. Tylka was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers said after the threat was gone, Officer Joseph Twigg used a combat trauma kit on Cederberg. Cederberg was shot 12 times, five bullets hit his body armor, his brother said on a GoFundMe page for the officer. He was hospitalized for 48 days after the shooting.

All officers have returned to regular duties.
