LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles police say they shot and killed a man who stabbed an officer in the arm.

Police were called to the man's apartment just after 11 p.m. Thursday because a screaming man was breaking windows, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Arriving officers heard shattering glass and screaming, Officer Cleon Joseph said. When they entered and confronted the man, they tried unsuccessfully to subdue him with a TASER before the man stabbed an officer.

Police officers opened fire and the man was hit several times in the torso, Joseph said.

He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name has not yet been released.
