EMERYVILLE, Calif. — A Northern California woman who was shot and killed by police had pointed a gun at store security guards and then tried to carjack at least three people at gunpoint before turning her revolver on officers.

The Oakland Tribune reports that 38-year-old Yvette Henderson of Oakland pointed a gun at Home Depot security officers in Emeryville who confronted her Tuesday about stealing knives.

Emeryville police Chief Ken James said Wednesday that the woman left the store and attempted several carjackings outside a storage facility in nearby Oakland. She encountered two officers and pointed her gun at them.

James said officers shot the woman at least seven times and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The officers are on paid leave as Oakland police and Alameda County prosecutors investigate.
