CLEVELAND — A dispatcher who sent Cleveland police to a recreation center where an officer fatally shot a 12-year-old boy holding a pellet gun has resigned.
The Northeast Ohio Media Group reports that records released this week show Beth Mandl resigned in July. She had sent police to the center where Tamir Rice was killed in November 2014.
She resigned days after she was asked to explain why she hadn’t shown up for work since April. According to a department letter, Mandl said the job was stressful.
Mandl came under fire from Tamir’s family and civil rights leader over her handling of the call. A police union official has said officers weren’t told that a 911 caller said the gun might be fake or that the person holding it might be a child.
