YORK, Pa. — A York City Police officer shot while serving a warrant in Harrisburg on Thursday, Jan. 18, remains in stable condition.

Officer Kyle Pitts, who is assigned to the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, is recovering from a non-life-threatening injury at a Harrisburg-area hospital, according to a Sunday, Jan. 21, news release from the York City Police Department.

During a news conference on Jan. 18, York City Interim Police Chief Troy Bankert said Pitts, a 10-year veteran of the department, was hit in his right elbow during the incident.

“Along with his injuries, Officer Pitts along with all members of the York City Police Department are coping with the loss of our friend and brother Deputy Christopher Hill,” the release states.

Hill, a 45-year-old deputy U.S. marshal from York County died in the same attack that wounded Pitts.

The task force was in the process of taking a wanted Harrisburg woman, Shayla Lynette Towles Pierce, 30, into custody Thursday when a man in her home opened fire.

Kevin Sturgis, 31, Philadelphia, shot both Pitts and Hill, according to U.S. Attorney David Freed.

Hill died of his injuries at Harrisburg Hospital, becoming the first officer fatality from a federal agency in 2018, according to the National Law Enforcement Offers Memorial Fund.
