ELOY, Ariz. Body camera footage of a deadly officer-involved shooting has been released.

CBS 5 reports Officer Richard Timmes was searching for a burglary suspect in an Eloy neighborhood when the incident occurred.

As Officer Timmes searched for the suspect, a resident, 25-year-old Victor Arenas, began shouting at him for shining his flashlight on the resident’s home.

Officer Timmes realized Arenas had a gun after shining his flashlight on him.

As seen in the video, Arenas then opened fire on the officer, and Timmes returned fire.

Arenas was hit during the exchange of gunfire and ran to the rear of the house, where he collapsed. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, according to the report.

AZ Central reports the family of Arenas claimed no words were exchanged in the incident. They also claimed the officer never identified himself.

The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office said Officer Timmes was in full uniform when the shootout occurred.

“Officer Timmes is lucky to be alive today and probably only survived due to his training and quick reaction to Arenas, who was trying to shoot him. Members of the media and others should get all the facts before they second-guess the life-and-death realities officers are faced with on a daily basis,” Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said in a statement.
