LOS ANGELES — LAPD officers fatally shot a man who held a woman at knife-point and refused to drop the weapon, recently released body cam footage shows.
On June 16, police responded to a report of a man who stabbed his ex-girlfriend at a church, NBC Los Angeles reported. When officers arrived, they encountered 32-year-old Guillermo Perez, who was armed with a large serrated knife.
Officers can be heard on video telling Perez to drop the knife multiple times before firing a beanbag gun at him. Perez used a folding chair to deflect two rounds before grabbing a woman standing next to a nearby building and pushing her between himself and officers.
After Perez raised the knife to the woman’s neck, three officers opened fire, striking Perez and the woman, identified as 49-year-old Elizabeth Tollision, according to the LA Daily News. Moore said Tollision, who he described as a homeless woman with disabilities, was shot twice.
The officers fired 18 times, Moore said.
Perez and Tollision were taken to a hospital, where they both died of their injuries. Perez’s ex-girlfriend was treated for stab wounds at a hospital.
