ALBANY, N.Y. — The New York State Police is set to welcome nearly 200 new troopers to its ranks.

The State Police will hold a graduation ceremony honoring its newest members on Thursday at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany.

The graduates have all completed 26 weeks at the Academy campus in Albany. The curriculum includes training in firearms, driving, physical fitness, first aid, Constitutional law, police procedure and ways to interact with the public.

They will be assigned to posts around the state and subject to additional on the job field training.

In all, the State Police Academy offers training to about 14,000 law-enforcement professionals each year — including new State Police recruits, veteran troopers learning new skills and officers and personnel from other agencies.
