MOOREFIELD, W. Va. — A Moorefield police officer accidentally ran a man’s arm over while trying to pursue another suspect who fled the scene on foot moments earlier.

A Moorefield officer and a W. Va. state trooper detained two passengers and were arresting Tyler Riggleman, 26, the driver of the vehicle, Sunday night for narcotics possession when Riggleman suddenly became combative and fled the scene on foot, according to Your4state.

As police pursued the suspect, one of the other two men, who was detained in the parking lot of the gas station, was hit by the cruiser. He suffered a fractured index finger and was treated and released from the hospital, according to The InterMountain.

"What we have here is a matter of good cops doing a good job and one of them happened to make a mistake," Moorefield Police Chief S.D. Reckhart said. "There was nothing malicious about it. She simply misjudged her distance (while in pursuit in her vehicle)."

There is an on-going internal and criminal investigation "into all aspects" of the matter, according to a police statement.

A video of the incident was recorded by a bystander and posted to YouTube. The accident itself was not caught on camera.

Riggleman is still at large and police have issued an arrest warrant for him on a slew of drug-related charges.
