HELENA, Mont. — The Montana Law Enforcement Academy and Missoula College have announced a partnership that will give officers graduating from basic training 18 credits at Missoula College.
MLEA Administrator Glen Stinar says officers can use those credits toward an associate degree in the fundamentals of police science. The remaining three semesters of classes can be taken online.
Stinar says the Department of Justice wants to promote continuous learning throughout an officer’s career.
Other coursework includes introductions to sociology and criminology and the sociology of law enforcement along with general education classes such as writing, math, science and history. The associate degree is the equivalent of the first two years of a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a criminology option.
Stinar says the Law Enforcement Academy course has been accredited.
