Nation’s largest police union calls Trump ‘proven leader’ in endorsement

Chuck Canterbury, the union’s president, said Trump “has seriously looked at the issues facing law enforcement today”

The National Fraternal Order of Police endorsed Republican candidate Donald Trump for president on Friday.

Chuck Canterbury, the union’s president, said in a statement that Trump “has seriously looked at the issues facing law enforcement today” and “understands and supports our priorities.”

The union represents over 330,000 officers.

Trump has previously stated his support for law enforcement. In a campaign video posted on social media earlier this year, Trump said officers across the country are not appreciated or given the respect they deserve.

“The fact is, they do an incredible job, we have to give them more authority and more respect,” he said in the video. “Without police, we wouldn’t be sitting here, we wouldn’t have the lives we have.”
