Video: LAPD makes daring rooftop rescue
Officers successfully secured man long enough to pull him back onto the ledge and to safety

LOS ANGELES — Police in Los Angeles handcuffed a suicidal man to a rooftop railing to save his life Thursday night.
Members of the Los Angeles Police Department were called to the apartment building Thursday night.
Reportedly distraught over a breakup with his girlfriend, the man had been ready to jump off the roof of an apartment building in downtown Los Angeles when officers and a security guard stepped in.
The rescuers handcuffed the man to the railing, successfully securing him long enough to pull him back onto the ledge and to safety, though the man did not submit without a fight.
He sunk his teeth into an officer’s arm, Lt. Paul Vernon told My Fox LA. The four-year veteran was undeterred by the bite, however, and didn't let go.
"The most amazing thing about this is the officers' commitment to saving this man in the face of danger to their own lives," Vernon said.
The man, whose name has been withheld, was taken to a hospital where sources say he will seek psychiatric treatment.
