MIAMI, Fla. — A family of six in Miami had no food, shelter or tickets to get back to their home in Michigan, according to a report by WFOR, a CBS affiliate station serving Miami.

They had been recently kicked out of their relative’s South Florida home and were wondering what to do next while standing in the Miami Greyhound station near the Miami International Airport.

That’s when Miami-Dade police officer Jose DeLeon noticed the family looking distressed at the station, according to WFOR.

After learning of the family’s plight, DeLeon rallied nearby officers who dropped by to donate some of their personal funds to the family so they could afford tickets back home.

After, DeLeon and other officers took the family to Chapman Project Homeless Center where they stayed the rest of the weekend, WFOR said.

The family departed Florida Monday.
