ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Meet Dorian — the puppy.

During patrol while Hurricane Dorian seemed like it would approach Florida, Orange County deputies encountered a partially flooded, abandoned vehicle.

Deputy Josh Tolliver peeked inside and found a pup alone, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Tolliver named the rescued canine after the storm that ended up largely sparing Central Florida from the wrath that devastated the Bahamas.

“She was wet and scared but otherwise fine,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Dorian’s breed and age are currently unknown.

Deputies are trying to track down the dog’s owner. If they do, the Sheriff’s Office said they would determine whether or not charges are appropriate depending on the circumstances of her abandonment.

The Sheriff’s Office initially said Dorian would be taken to Orange County Animal Services but the puppy has already captured the heart of her rescuer.

“The good news is if the owner doesn’t come forward, the deputy will adopt Dorian,” Sheriff John Mina said Wednesday at a news conference.

Before a storm hits, Animal Services recommends pet owners prepare by making sure microchips and tags are updated, gathering supplies and having an evacuation plan.
