INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — A Missouri officer is being praised for his effort in fixing an upside-down American flag being flown outside a local business.

Independence Police Officer David Wehlermann was responding to a call when he drove by a large American flag on Jan. 19, Yahoo! Finance reports.

The officer saw that the flag was upside down and needed to be repositioned. He contacted the business owners who said they couldn’t get it fixed until the following Monday.

“They said they got a lot of angry calls from passersby about the flag upside down, so I called dispatch and requested that a ladder truck come out, and the great crew of Ladder 2 came out and fixed the flag,” Wehlermann told Fox News. “It’s a symbol of freedom for the world, and I want it to be rightly displayed.”

According to a Independence Police Department Facebook post, Wehlermann is also an Air Force veteran.
