PHILADELPHIA — An undercover police sergeant shot a man authorities say attacked her in an apparent carjacking attempt in Philadelphia Tuesday night.

The 57-year-old sergeant was sitting in a car near North Park and West Hunting Park avenues around 7:30 p.m. when the suspect threw a rock into her driver’s side window, grabbed her by the neck, and tried to drag her out of the car, Action News 6 ABC is reporting.

As the 25-year-old man continued to attack her, the sergeant pulled out her gun and opened fire, NBC 10 is reporting.

Reports indicate the suspect was shot at least once and ran away, only to be found 20 minutes later when he broke into a nearby home to hide but was chased out by the homeowner.

The suspect is at the hospital, listed in critical condition. The sergeant, a 23-year veteran of the department, was treated for her injuries, reports indicate.
