A series of tweets from the department told the story of the journey in classic rhyme scheme

NEW YORK CITY — The New York City Police Department got into the Christmas spirit a little early this year as department spokespeople live-tweeted the annual delivery of the iconic Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.

In a series of tweets set to the rhyme scheme of Clement Clarke Moore’s “A Visit from St. Nicholas,” videos show NYPD officers escorting the truck bearing the tree through the streets of New York City.

Another tweet captures bystanders stopping at crosswalks to take photographs and videos of the tree driving by. A fourth tweet shows a video of each officer responsible for escorting the tree to Rockefeller Center, naming them all in accordance with the rhyme.

To the sounds of cheers and applause, the tree made its way to Midtown New York. In the background, Christmas music plays.

A final tweet thanks the NYPD Highway District officers for bringing in the tree and ends with the famous closing line, “Happy Christmas to all, and to all a goodnight!”
