BOSTON, N.Y. — A New York woman has given birth in a state police station garage after her labor progressed so quickly that she couldn’t make it to a hospital.

State police say Matthew Kovacs was driving his wife, Misty, to a hospital Thursday afternoon when he called a trooper station in the Buffalo suburb of Clarence for help. He was told to pull into the state police station in the couple’s hometown of Boston, 20 miles south of Buffalo.

Troopers there ran outside and found Misty Kovacs in the front seat of their car. Her husband pulled into the station’s heated garage, where a trooper and a volunteer firefighter helped deliver an 8-pound, 4-ounce boy.

An ambulance took the mother and child to a Buffalo hospital. Both are doing fine.
