IRONDALE, Ala. — A loose goat rescued by Irondale police got more than a ride in the backseat of a patrol car.
The goat has a supporting role in a video capitalizing on the “Old Town Road” craze. In the video, posted to the Irondale Police Department’s Facebook page Tuesday night, the lyrics referencing a horse were changed to a goat.
The rescued goat also sang some backup vocals -- sounds of the goat bleating were mixed in with the officer’s singing.
The Irondale video is not the only Alabama-based take on “Old Town Road," the country-rap song by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus that has gone viral across the country with nearly 170 million YouTube views.
Last month, Jasmine Merlette, a third-grade teacher at Sun Valley Elementary School in Birmingham, made a math-themed remix of the tune.
Merlette’s version caught the attention of Lil Nas X and Cyrus, who both shared the video on their social media pages.
She then appeared on the “Ellen” show, where guest host Wanda Sykes surprised her with $10,000.
