Job Description

The primary function of a Detention Deputy is to provide care, custody and control of the diverse inmate population. Opportunities include twelve hour shifts with a two day on and two day off schedule providing a three day weekend every other week. All twelve hour shifts also rotate every four months. Other opportunities include administrative duties such as Transportation Deputy (who take care of out of facility transports for medical care and such); Classification Deputy; Booking Deputy; Housing Deputy; Fugitive Extradition Deputy (travels to other facilities to transport Lake County fugitives); Passive K-9 and Bloodhound.

Additional Information

Meals are provided at no charge to the employees daily by civilian staff. This allows for staff to remain in the facility in case of emergency. Lunch breaks are paid. Job Requirements

  • Age: 19
  • Education: High School Graduate or G.E.D.
  • Experience: Certified

Minimum qualifications include: U.S. Citizen; Honorable or General Discharge (if a veteran); Good moral character; No felony arrests; Good driving record; No pervasive past illegal drug use. Successful completion of Criminal Justice Standards and Training Course and state wide examination to be a Certified Officer. Hiring requirements include: Full Application to be turned into us via mail or in person. Written Examination (TABE test); Background Investigation; Oral Interviews; Psychological Examination; Medical Examination; Urinalysis; Upon selection you will enter an extensive Field Training and Evaluation Program, during which you will learn from experienced Deputies. In training, you will progressively earn the right to wear the coveted Detention Deputy star.
