Purpose of position Enforces laws related to the protection of life and property, directs and controls traffic, prevents crime or disturbance of peace, and arrests violators.
Essential functions • Preserves the peace by the use of all lawful means, interceding, when authorized by law, to prevent or suppress crime. • Provides service, information and directions to students, employees and visitors. • Executes all lawful process. • Arrests offenders with and without warrant when authorized by law. • Investigates criminal offenses to detect and arrest criminals, recover stolen or lost property. • Attempts to locate missing persons. • Enforces traffic law by detecting violations, making violator contacts, placing violators in custody or issuing citations or warnings. • Investigates motor vehicle collisions. • Enforces Board of Regents Rules and Regulations. • Prepares reports on all activities, filing them with a supervising officer. • Identifies potential security and safety hazards. • Performs related duties as assigned. • Adheres to rules and regulations promulgated by the Board of Regent's of the University of Texas System. • Complies with all State and University policies. • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Required qualifications • Sixty (60) semester hours from an accredited college or university; or thirty (30) semester college hours and two (2) years of active duty military service. • Must have at least 5 years experience working as a Peace Officer in a Texas law enforcement agency. • Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the State where the applicant resides and must be insurable as defined in the UT System BPM 16-05-02. • Must meet the prerequisites established by the Office of the Director of Police, Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education, and the Rules and Regulations of the Board of Regent’s concerning AGE REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must have reached his/her 21st birthday but not 45th birthday ON DATE OF ORIGINAL COMMISSIONING AS A PEACE OFFICER. • Must possess a current Peace Officers license issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) and must possess at least the intermediate level peace officer certificate issued by TCLEOSE. • Must have less than a two year break in service as a commissioned peace officer at time of application.
