The mission of the TSA Office of Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal
Service (OLE/FAMS) is to promote public confidence in the security of our nation's transportation domain. To achieve this mission, OLE/FAMS deploys Federal Air Marshals on U.S. aircraft worldwide; conducts protection, response, detection, and assessment activities in airports and other transportation systems; maintains TSA's state of preparedness and coordinates incident management; trains and manages all armed pilots; and coordinates all TSA canine assets.
SALARY: $38,776.00 TO $60,081.00 Salary range does not include locality pay, which depends on the assignment location:

This position is covered by the Federal Law Enforcement Retirement System, and the incumbent is eligible for the 25% Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP).
MAJOR DUTIES: The employee serves as an entry-level Federal Air Marshal for the Department of Homeland Security, TSA, Office of Law Enforcement, Federal Air Marshal Service. The primary duties and responsibilities of a Federal Air Marshal involve the investigation, apprehension or detention of individuals suspected or convicted of offenses against the criminal laws of U.S. air carriers, airports, passengers and crews. Duties are typically performed under the oversight of a higher level Federal Air Marshal. Under the authority of the Aviation and Transportation Security Act (PL 107-71, November 19, 2001), the employee functions as a Federal Law Enforcement Officer and performs the duties and responsibilities assigned to Federal Air Marshals, who:
Administer, coordinate, or perform inspectional, investigative, analytical, or advisory work to ensure compliance with federal laws, regulations, or other mandatory guidelines.
Carry firearms; make arrests without warrants for any offense against the United States committed in their presence, or for any felony cognizable under the laws of the United States if there is probable cause to believe that a felony is being or has been committed; seek and execute warrants for arrest or seizure of evidence issued under the authority of the United States upon probable cause that a violation has been committed; and identify and interview witnesses and suspects.
Present information regarding the above enforcement activities to the appropriate U.S. Attorney, as necessary. Such enforcement activities may involve matters of extreme sensitivity with difficult planning and coordination problems because of jurisdictional concerns involving other nations, and federal, state, county, and local governments.
Participate, as needed, in multi-agency task forces and in land-based investigative assignments involving other federal, state and local agencies in support of an integrated federal law enforcement and intelligence approach to proactively fight terrorism at all levels.
Are deployed worldwide on passenger flights of U.S. air carriers and serve to counter the risk of criminal/terrorist violence and aircraft piracy, in order to meet national security concerns.
