The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office demands the highest standards of honesty, professionalism, and integrity to maintain public trust, respect, and community partnership.Apply Online TodayTHE POSITION: Under supervision, maintain order and security of inmates within a detention facility, transport from the correctional facilities to and from court, medical facilities, and other locations within and outside the County, supervise a crew of inmates in work projects throughout the County, and assist in the correction of antisocial attitudes and behavior.
VETERANS PREFERENCE INFORMATION: Any veteran who has submitted a copy of their DD214 form and received a discharge of other than dishonorable, from the armed forces showing service in any branch of the United States military will be given preferential credit to five percent (ten percent for those identified as disabled veterans), after attaining a passing examination score for a numerically scored examination, as applicable by Memorandum of Understanding.
EXAMINATION PROCESS: The examination process may include one or more of the following: application review, application appraisal, preliminary competitive rating, performance test, written test, and/or oral interview examination.
The recruitment may require completion of Supplemental Questions in order to evaluate your education, training and experience relative to the required knowledge and abilities for the position you are applying for.
Your responses to the question may also be reviewed and scored in a Competitive Rating evaluation process based on pre-determined rating criteria. Sheriff’s Correctional Deputy salaries range from $37.41 – 45.47 Hourly and $77,804.48 - $94,573.44 Annually plus eligible for Career Incentive Pay up to 7.5% above base salary, uniform allowance, and tuition reimbursement.

Completion of the Correctional Officer training approved by the California State Board of Corrections. In addition, must possess current certification that demonstrates successful completion of coursework fulfilling the requirements of Penal Code Section 832.
Applicants who have passed their 20th birthday may submit an application but cannot be appointed until they have reached their 21st birthday.
Graduation from high school or possession of a General Education Development (G.E.D.) Certificate at the time of application.
Have never been convicted of a felony. Any felony conviction and/or a conviction outside of California that would be considered a felony in this state is disqualifying.
Must be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship.
Must be able to pass a complete background investigation including fingerprints and a search of local, state and national files for criminal history.
Must pass a psychological evaluation and pass a thorough medical examination based on medical standards.
