Job Description

General patrol duties including but not limited to patrolling within the city limits and outlying areas, answering calls for service, taking complaints and resolving conflicts. Officers are required to conduct and complete investigations when necessary. Administrative duties include but not limited to initiating and completing reports of investigations, inner-office documentation and other duties. Officers will offer professional assistance when an outside agency(s) request it. Other police duties will be explained during the interview. Probationary period is six (6) months from date of hire.

Additional Information

We are a small city that is basically rebuilding its police department from scratch. The agency has its Chief along with three other full-time officers. Waelder also has a Reserve Officer Program, but NOT taking applications for those positions at this time. Our salary starts at $33,000 annually with certificate pay, higher education compensation along with language supplemental income, that is added to the base salary after completing three months of tenure with the agency. Our agency is implementing a home-fleet program if the officer lives within a 30 minute response time of the police department. Uniforms and badge are supplied. Items such as boots, duty leather/nylon and handgun are NOT supplied. Long guns are supplied by the agency.

Job Requirements

  • Age: 21 & over
  • Education: TCLEOSE License
  • Experience: 5 years minimum

TCLEOSE licensed with a minimum of five years proven law enforcement experience. Our idea full-time police candidate has already been an officer who has experienced and successfully handled a diverse amount of crimes and situations. An officer who is cool on his/her feet and able to make sound decisions is an officer we are searching for to serve our community. He/she should have a good grasp on initiating criminal investigations and caring for the investigation until it reaches the courtroom. Most of all, the candidate(s) we hire will be honest, trustworthy and treat the people whom he encounters fairly and justly. Police candidates will be physically able to do police patrol work, be self-motivated with a good background and sound work ethics. He/she must be of good moral character and moral turpitude. Waelder requires officers to live within that response time within 3 months of being sworn in.
