We are seeking a part time Firearms Crime Analyst (FCA) to work approximately 20-40 hours per week. The Firearms Crime Analyst will assist the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ (ATF) National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) Branch in gathering performance measurement data. The specific objective of the contractor position is to work with ATF personnel and ATF’s partner law enforcement agencies to obtain and coordinate information and encourage those agencies to submit their ballistic evidence to laboratories for acquisition into ATF’s NIBIN databases. The Firearms Crime Analyst may be required to gather information from police and/or court documents either in hard copy or computerized form. The contractor will have frequent interaction with multiple law enforcement agencies, but is prohibited from conducting or assisting with any type of criminal investigation.
Requirements: Qualified applicants will possess at least 5 years knowledge of Federal firearm laws and regulations, has working knowledge of firearm nomenclature, and has experience tracing firearms. Applicants must also possess the ability to recognize and evaluate trends and patterns regarding crime evidence, illicit firearms markets and firearms trafficking. Applicant will be required to establish rapport with ATF personnel and NIBIN partners. Ability to write accurate reports and efficiently plan and organize work are a MUST.
