Job Description

Manages, supervises, plans and coordinates activities and operations of the department and its personnel. Supervises and evaluates assigned personnel to insure work activities and investigations are carried out in a safe, legal and efficient manner. Effectively administers operations in accordance with Federal/State laws and local policies/ordinances. Performs other duties as required. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: - Responsible for the overall operations of the Task Force unit. - Supervises and evaluated job performances of assigned personnel. - Ensures staff compliance with departmental and city policies. - Assigns specific targets, case investigations and enforcement projects; schedules work assignments - Works closely with all applicable agencies - Reviews reports and investigations to insure that prescribed procedures are followed, updates agencies with ongoing investigations - Maintain intelligence files of suspects - Insure that all cases are brought to the District Attorney in a timely manner - Ensures all technical and clerical duties are conducted timely. - Prepares annual departmental budget. - Responsible for ensuring the accurate documentation of seized monies and property. - Reviews fund requests for operational use. - Maintains close interaction and communications with the City Manager. - Coordinates and/or assists in the coordination of investigations with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. - Develops and maintains effective liaison between Task Force Unit and local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. - Works irregular hours including weekends, holiday and extended hours when necessary

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: - Thorough knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques and equipment - Thorough knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws, ordinances and department rules and regulations - Knowledge of criminal justice system principles - Knowledge of the geography of the city and the surrounding vicinity - Knowledge of computers to include setup, maintenance and industry standard software - Knowledge of business letter writing and basic report preparation - Skills in management techniques - supervising, evaluating and motivation techniques for effective department operation - Good verbal and written communication skills - Good interpersonal skills; able to work well with a wide range of people - Ability to plan, organize and manage time effectively - Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision - Ability to analyze problems and identify alternative solutions - Ability to make independent judgments which have critical impacts on the organization

Job Requirements

  • Age: 21+
  • Education: High School
  • Experience: 5 years experience as a dept director, division manager or any other supervisory experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Advanced TCLEOSE certification; 5 yrs of criminal justice experience; 5 yrs of progressively responsible experience as a department director, division manager or any other supervisory experience in a law enforcement agency. Acceptable Equivalency: Any combination of training and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required

PREFERENCE: Three (3) years narcotics investigation field experience; Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice public administration or closely related field; Bilingual in English/Spanish
