The Laramie Police Department is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. Applications must be received by December 3, 2010 to be considered for the testing process which will be held in the middle of December 2010 (TBD).
Our new hires start out as Police Recruits. After approximately eight months of initial training and upon the successful completion of the Field Training program, officers are moved to Police Officer status. After the initial probationary period, Police Officers can apply for a variety of special assignments, including:
• Detective Drug
• Task Force Agent
• School Resource Officer
• Crime Prevention Officer
• DARE Officer
• Training Officer
A majority of Laramie Police Officers work in the Patrol Unit of the Operations Division. In addition to their Patrol Assignments, opportunities exist for Police Officers to become Instructors in a variety of specialized fields, including:
• Custody and Control
• Emergency Vehicle Operations
• Electronic Restraint Devices (Tasers)
• DUI Enforcement
• Tactical Communications
• Active Shooter
• Criminal Investigations
