Graduates of the Austin Police Department academy are responsible for:
The protection of life, liberty, and property.
Enforcement of all laws of the State of Texas and laws and ordinances of the City of Austin.
Perform law enforcement duties including:
o Respond to calls for service.
o Enforce traffic laws.
o Conduct preliminary investigations of crimes.
o Execute all lawful process.
o Arrest offenders with and without warrant when authorized by law.
o Investigate motor vehicle crashes.
o Prepare various written reports.
o Give testimony in court.
Confer with local law enforcement, criminal justice, and emergency response agencies on matters of mutual interest.
Perform other duties as assigned.

The minimum qualifications include:
At least 20.5 and younger than 46 years of age at time of application.
US Citizen, born or naturalized.
Have a valid Driver’s License.
HS Diploma or GED.
