Attain the necessary training and state certifications to perform intermediate, protective service work involving a variety of general or support duty police assignments; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. This is a training position in which the police officer trainee will attend the Law Enforcement Academy and pass the state certification exam. The City of Oviedo will pay the costs associated with the Police Academy. The trainee will be responsible for completion of the Police Officer Trainee Program and to become a certified police officer for the City of Oviedo with a contract for a two-year minimum commitment.

Regularly attend the Law Enforcement Academy.
Successfully complete all areas of study while attending the Law Enforcement Academy.
Pass the State of Florida Law Enforcement Certification Examination.
Must be at least 21 years of age. Required to be a citizen of the United States. Also required to possess a high school diploma or a GED Certificate which meets state standards. Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License. Required to be in good physical condition. Vision: Minimum of 20/40 corrected. Must be of good moral character: no felony convictions; no misdemeanor convictions involving moral character, perjury, or false statements as outlined in Florida Statutes. Required to successfully meet agency drug/nicotine use standards and to successfully pass a drug/nicotine screen test.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Qualify in the PAT (Physical Abilities Test), successfully enroll in the Law Enforcement Academy, successfully pass the writing sample and a physical fitness examination, and sign the Training Reimbursement Agreement.
