++POSITION SPECIFIC INFORMATION++: The Commerce City Police Department's Youth Services Unit, in collaboration with community partnerships, strives to maintain an alliance between youth, families, the community and the Police Department, utilizing teamwork, mentoring and accountability as tools to assist our youth in becoming mature and responsible citizens.
As School Resource Officers, the Youth Services Unit works in partnership with the Adams County Youth Initiative, Adams 14 School District, Brighton 27J School District, several charter school entities, and the Commerce City Parks, Recreation and Golf Department. In addition to our community partnerships the Youth Services Unit manages the Commerce City Police Explorer program, the Commerce City Youth Police Camp and several other youth-based programs.
The Commerce City Police Department provides School Resource Officer services to two school districts--Adams 14 and Brighton 27J--that has a total of 19 schools that serve about14,000 students. The Youth Services Unit consists of eight School Resource Officers and one Sergeant that reports to the Special Operations Bureau Commander.
Selected candidates will be offered a five (5) year assignment, with the opportunity for two (2) one-year extensions, as a School Resource Officer. Selected candidates are expected to complete the Department's In-house and Field Training programs for newly hired police officers. A selected candidate's experience may be considered toward a reduction in new hire training time.

•Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age
•Earned a or high school equivalency certificate High School Diploma or a General Education Development (GED)
•A United States Citizen or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for United States Citizenship
•Must possess a valid Colorado driver's license by date of hire
•Currently employed full-time by a local, county or state law enforcement agency as a certified peace officer working in a police officer related function (Does not include corrections or detention officers)
•Minimum of five (5) years of full-time experience as a police officer working for a local, county, or state law enforcement agency in a police officer related function (Does not include any experience as a corrections or detentions officer/deputy)
•Minimum of three (3) additional years of full-time experience as a School Resource Officer for a full-service law enforcement agency.
•Ten (10) or more years of law enforcement experience
•Five (5) or more years of School Resource Officer experience
•Basic School Resource Officer Certification
•Spanish language fluency
•Bilingual language skills, or American Sign Language skills
•Associate's Degree or at least 60 semester credit our or the equivalent from an accredited institution

- Education: High School Diploma or a General Education Development (GED)
- Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of full-time experience as a police officer and three (3) additional years of full-time experience as a School Resource Officer
