Job Description

This position involves general police work pertaining to the enforcement of all applicable statutes and laws within the jurisdiction of Charles County. This may include crime prevention, investigation and detection, protection of life and property, traffic control, and maintaining law and order in Charles County. Work related to this position has the potential for personal danger and involves working with all levels of the criminal element. Officers receive direction from supervisors and carry out their assignments in accordance with estalished operating procedures, yet must be able to act without direct supervision.

Job Requirements

  • Age: 21
  • Education: High School
  • Experience: 1 Year


High School Diploma or equivalent.

Currently a Maryland certified police officer, or have held certification as a Maryland law enforcement officer within the last three (3) years at time of appointment.

If not Maryland Certified, graduation from a 6 month police academy from another state/jurisdiction and able to become approved by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission (MPCTC) to go to a comparative compliance program to become a certified police officer through the State of Maryland.

Possess a valid driver’s license.

Ability to operate agency radio and computer systems.

Ability to operate agency vehicles as required by policy and state laws.

Ability to maintain police certification by attending in service training as required.

Maintain physical requirements to perform daily job functions.

Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation.

Ability to utilize a high level of discretion and good judgment
