The Norwalk Police Department is now accepting applications for an entry level police officer exam on Saturday August 3, 2019. Pre-registration for the exam is required. Qualified applicants are permitted to register now on-line by submitting an application through PoliceApp. Check back on this page for other announcements and important dates. A 40% CHIP card will be required at the time of registration. Steps for Applying to Become a Norwalk Police Officer
**Step One - **Do you meet the minimum qualifications? Yes. Move to step two. No. Do not proceed further until you do.
Step Two - Do you have a valid current 40% C.H.I.P. card? Yes. Move to step three. No. Register and take the Physical Ability Assessment (C.H.I.P. card). To Register for the CHIP Test go to CertifyFit.com. There is a $75 Registration fee to participate in the CHIP Physical Agility Test.
Step Three - Apply to the Norwalk Police Department by clicking the "Apply Now" button on this page.
Current Application fee: $75.00. ($50.00 registration fee may be waived due to financial hardship, download form (Fee Waiver Request Form ) or contact Lieutenant Brian Cunningham at firstname.lastname@example.org.)
Complete and submit your application. An application fee of $75.00 will be required at the time of submission.
Individuals without a CHIP at the 40th% will not be able to submit the application.
Step Four - Take the written exam (application must be submitted through http://www.policeapp.com ). You will receive an invitation to the written test through your email. Bring your valid driver's license to the test site. Pass. Move to step five Did not pass. End of process. You may return to step two in the next selection process.
Step Five - Take Oral Board Interview. Notification will be made by email based on Department needs. Pass. Move to step six. Did not pass. End of process. You may return to step two in the next selection process.
Step Six - Placement on Eligibility List. Placement on the list does not ensure that you will move on to the next phase.
Step Seven - Conditional Offer of Employment to those selected from the eligibility list.
Step Eight - Acceptance of the Conditional Offer of Employment begins the Background Investigation Process. Successful candidates can expect to go through the Phases for Becoming a Norwalk Police Officer. - Must be a U.S. Citizen
- High School Diploma or equivalency
- Age 21 at time of appointment
- Valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License (Upon Hiring)
- No felony convictions
- No Class A or Class B misdemeanor convictions or any act of perjury or false statement
- Must meet or exceed the "Cooper Institute" 40% Physical Performance Standard in the four basic tests of the pre-employment Physical Ability Assessment. (C.H.I.P. Card)
- Upon hiring - Residence within 40 miles of police headquarters
- Vision -Corrected 20/30 - Uncorrected 20/100
- No tattoos on or above the neck, or on hands
