Recruit starting pay is $48,017 ($23.09 hourly) which increases to $50,057 ($24.07 hourly) upon completion of Field Training and probation period.
Lateral officers can start higher up the pay scale depending on experience.
Work normally consists of:
Patrol activities within the city;
Monitoring traffic for possible civil or criminal violations;
Prevention and discovery of the commission of crimes;
Apprehension of criminals and offenders;
Making presence known throughout the community in a manner that contributes to the deterrence and solving of crime;
Answering calls and complaints involving fire, vehicle accidents, robberies, domestic violence situations, neighborhood disturbances, and other misdemeanors, felonies, and service calls;
Administering first aid and CPR;
Securing crime scenes and conducting preliminary and full-scale investigations, except on major crimes;
Gathering evidence, obtaining witnesses, and issuing citations or making arrests, if appropriate;
Interviewing witnesses, gathering information, preparing detailed reports, and preparing case files for court prosecution;
Participating fully in annual and other regular training programs in police methods and procedures;
Testifying in court proceedings;
Secondary Assignments available to patrol include: K9 handler, Drug Recognition Expert, Phlebotomist, EMT, Field Training Officer, Recruit Training Officer, UAV operator, HGN certification, Accident Re-constructionist, Special Response Team operator, Precision Rifle Team member, Crisis Negotiation Team operator, and Peer Support Team member. Secondary assignments can also include Instructors of: Physical Training, Defensive Tactics, Evasive Vehicle Operation Course, Firearms, or General Instructor.
Primary Assignments available after completion of 2 years on patrol include Traffic Officer, School Resource Officer, or Detective of Property Crimes, Major Crimes, or Community Response Team (narcotics).

Sierra Vista Police Department proudly meets standards set forth by the Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).
- Age: 21
- Education: Minimum of 30 college credits for recruits or minimum of 1.5 years of service as a certified Peace Officer for laterals in lieu of credits
- Experience: None
High school diploma or GED required;
Must be able to meet the Arizona Peace Officers Standards and Training Board (AZ POST) certification requirements;
Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license at time of employment;
College credit hours and/or degree must be from an institution accredited by one of the six regional accreditation boards or through joint service transcripts.
Must reside within a 50 mile radius of Sierra Vista city limits.
Must reside within a 15 mile radius of Sierra Vista city limits to be eligible for a take-home vehicle or on-call assignments.
