Public Safety Manager
Penn State Brandywine located in Media, PA is seeking a Public Safety Manager.
This position will typically work during the day with occasional evening and weekend work required.
This sworn officer will lead a small (3.5 person) department to ensure the safety and well-being of a 1,600+ commuter student population.
Duties as follows: oversee investigations of criminal and non-criminal complaints, assist other law enforcement agencies with criminal investigations as needed, collect necessary information for subsequent documentation, submit completed investigation reports; case management using the department's record management system to monitor cases and ensure cases are being handled properly; interpret and communicate laws and policies to the campus and surrounding community; ensure security personnel comply with University policies; enforce national, state, and local laws as well as University regulations through investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of violators; assist the Office of Student Affairs in information collection as it relates to students and the student Code of Conduct; responsible for preventing illegal, unsafe and undesirable activity through patrol, education, example-setting, and inspection; monitor, oversee, and coordinate campus parking pass and parking/traffic violations; effectively utilize the department’s parking/traffic management system; coordinate scheduling of officers and security personnel for special events and general staffing requirements; supervise and direct work for assigned staff including completion and accuracy of work, performance evaluations, authorization of vacation requests and overtime, and approving employee attendance records; assess training needs of department or work units holding special events and assist with coordination and/or development and delivery of needed training when necessary; represent the University on committees, at meetings, to faculty, staff, students, the general public, other law enforcement agencies, and the media.
Responsible for making bank deposits and/or providing escort for bank deposits.
Serve as the emergency response coordinator for the campus, work with the Office of Student Affairs to coordinate ambulance transportation for student emergencies, responsible for communicating and training the campus community on the emergency operations plan, coordinating required annual drills/exercises, assisting in the development/refinement of emergency preparedness and business continuity plans.
Ensure Clery Act compliance, report writing and documentation, and training of all Campus Security Authorities. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and be comfortable publicly presenting programs to a broad constituency.
Must have the ability to problem-solve in emergency situations and effectively manage a variety of crises.
Responsible for key control and video surveillance system management.
Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher plus six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
PA Driver's License, U.S. citizenship, age 21 or older, ability to pass a criminal background investigation, Act 120 Certification, ability to pass a psychological evaluation and a physical ability test, and be in good general health as determined by a University physical examination.
This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
