Job Description

The Rock Springs Police Civil Service Commission is requesting applications from persons interested in employment with the Rock Springs Police Department. Upon employment, new officers who are not already Wyoming POST certified will attend the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy in Douglas, Wyoming. Upon their return from the academy, new officers will participate in a fourteen week Field Training Program. The Rock Springs Police Department strives to provide the most current training available to all officers who show an interest in furthering their education. We also offer numerous "extracurricular" assignments, including but not limited to Field Training Officer, Bike Patrol, Critical Accident Team, TRT (Tactical Response Team), School Resource Officer, DARE, and a Street Crimes Unit, whose primary assignment is drug related investigations.

Additional Information

Rock Springs Police Officers and Detectives are provided a take home car, an initial supply of summer and winter uniforms, body armor (replaced every five years), firearms (Sig Sauer P.226, AR-15 Rifles, and Remington 870 Shotguns), $660.00 yearly clothing allotment and other basic police equipment. Starting wage is $4,034.00 per month with excellent benefits which include 100% pension contribution paid by the City of Rock Springs, 20 year retirement, health, dental and eye insurance; life insurance, optional 457 deferred compensation, one sick day and vacation day per month, 13 paid holidays, funeral and military leave.

Applications must be turned in at City Hall by May 14th, 2013 by 4:00 p.m. Faxed, emailed, or double-sided applications will NOT be accepted. If you are an out-of-town applicant, applications may be mailed with copies of all supporting documentation. Candidates must pass the written P.O.S.T. test, physical fitness performance test, oral board interview, polygraph and intensive background investigation. The written test will be held May 22, 2013 at 8:30 a.m. at the Rock Springs Fire Station #3, located at 145 Industrial Dr. This test is a pass/fail test. Applicants that pass the written portion of testing will proceed to the physical fitness test. The physical fitness performance test will be held at the Rock Springs Family Recreation Center located at 3900 Sweetwater Drive in Rock Springs. The briefing will begin promptly at 1:00 p.m. May 22, 2013. This is a pass/ fail test. Comfortable clothing such as shorts, sweats, t-shirt, tennis shoes or sport shoes are recommended for the physical test. If you pass the physical fitness test, you will be given an appointment for an oral board interview. Oral board interviews will be held in the Rock Springs City Hall located at 212 D Street, on May 23, 2013. After passing the oral board, polygraphs will be scheduled for later in the day on May 23, 2013 and on May 24, 2013 if we have a large number of applicants. We will make every effort to give scheduling priority to out-of-town applicants for their oral exam and polygraph.
