Job Description

The Ottawa Police Department is seeking highly motivated applicants for the position of Police Officer. The men and women of the department are guided by the following values: human life, integrity, the laws and Constitution, excellence, accountability, cooperation, problem-solving, ourselves, and our role in the community. To accomplish our goals we use the latest in technology and police practices. To increase effectiveness the department uses mobile computers in all patrol cars. With an authorized strength of 27 officers serving a growing population of approximately 13,000 there is room for advancement. Positions include Detective, Drug Detective, Sexual Assault Detective, School Resource Officer, Dare Officer, Master Patrol Officer, STAR Team (Special Tactics and Rescue). We work closely with the Sheriffs Office, Kansas Highway Patrol and a resident KBI agent with an office in the Law Enforcement Center. TYPE: Full Time SALARY: Starting: $34,549 to $48,381 annually, depending on qualifications Additional increases for:
  • Honorable Military Discharge: 1%
  • Associates Degree: 2%
  • Bachelors Degree: 4%
  • Masters Degree: 7%
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Candidates must be 21 years of age and a U.S. citizen, possess a valid Kansas driver’s license, and be insurable by the city’s insurance carrier.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • College credit preferred.
  • Must comply with Franklin County residency requirement to establish and maintain residency within Franklin County or within a driving distance of 35 miles of the Ottawa City Hall within one year of employment.
