All applicants must also submit a resume outlining any past experience, education, and general background information. Please provide the names and contact numbers for at least three prior employers or law enforcement references for use by this department when conducting pre-employment background investigations. Additionally, please provide a one page handwritten statement providing information as to why you have chosen law enforcement as a career. (Remember: Handwritten only and no more than one page in length) Starting salary for patrol officers without prior certification is $20.13 per hour ($41,870.40 annually) and $20.63 per hour ($42,910.40 annually) for those with prior certification. Employee health insurance is provided along with retirement benefits as provided by the Montana Public Employees Retirement System and standard social security benefits. All uniforms and equipment are provided by the department. Work schedules consist of 4-10 hour shifts based on a rotating 28 day work schedule. Sidney is primarily an agricultural community of between 6,000 and 7,000 people located in eastern Montana near the North Dakota border. We are located in the heart of the Yellowstone Valley along the Yellowstone River. At the present time our community, in addition to those communities along the North Dakota border, is at the center of the BAKKEN oil exploration effort. The extreme rise in the levels of oil production and the associated service industry have brought huge increases in all types of activity to the Sidney, Richland County area, including a large increase in criminal activity. For this reason we have decided to add additional manpower to our staff and to provide improved service to our community. We are asking that any applicant who is serious about their efforts to apply be willing to commit a reasonable term of service to the citizens of Sidney and Richland County.
