Position is for a full-time, non-exempt staff position under VPFA- Public Safety. Position is for an entry level, sworn, armed Law Enforcement Officer (Private). Candidates will undergo a selection process which includes a Physical Abilities Test, Written Test, Personal History Statement, Oral Board, Background Investigation, Polygraph, Command Interview, Medical Exam, and Psychological Exam. Selected candidates will need to complete a six month entry level Police Academy, Field Training, and probationary period. Candidates must be able to be certified as a sworn police officer and maintain their certification through the Maryland Police Training Commission. Employee in the classification, under direct supervision, is responsible for protecting the inhabitant and real property of the College Park campus and enforcing the laws of the United States & Maryland and the rules and regulations of the University of Maryland.
Starting Salary of $42,049 for a UPO I. Police Academy is scheduled to start in late January or February of 2014. Employees are required to work shift work 24 hours a day, 7 days per week as well as assigned overtime events. The employee will be expected to maintain his/her physical condition in order to successfully accomplish all assignments without jeopardizing his/her personal well being or that of the community which he/she is expected to serve.
