Job Description

Qualified persons are invited to apply to the Borough of McAdoo Police Civil Service Commission to participate in competitive examination leading to eligibility for appointment as: POLICE OFFICER Borough of McAdoo Police Department Applications may be picked up at the Office of the Borough Secretary, 23 North Hancock Street, McAdoo, Pennsylvania, 18237, beginning Monday, 28 October, 2013 Monday thru Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Applications must be returned no later than 4PM on Friday, 15 November, 2013. Applications may be mailed or hand delivered to the Office of the Borough Secretary. A $40.00 administrative fee MUST BE returned with the application. Check or money orders should be made payable to the Borough of McAdoo, do not send cash. Applications submitted without the required administration fee or if the check is returned for insufficient funds or a closed account, your application will be rejected. Incomplete applications and applications received after the stated deadline will not be considered. Any questions, please contact Borough Secretary, Diane Minneci at 570-929-1182. The testing process will consist of a physical fitness test (Pass/Fail), written examination, a competitive oral review board interview (Date/Time TBD). The physical agility test is scheduled for 4:00 PM Friday, 22 November 2013, at the Hazleton Rails to Trails located on State Route 93 approximately 200 feet west of the Junction of State Route 93 and State Route 424, Hazleton, PA 18201. Registration begins at 3:30 PM. Physical Fitness requirements are attached. Those candidates passing the physical fitness test will take the written examination at the Borough Hall at 6:00 PM. Essential Duties of a Police Officer
  1. Running for several hundred yards
  2. Climbing over obstacles
  3. Crawling
  4. Pushing motor vehicle
  5. Pulling or carrying accident, fire or crime victims
  6. Using physical force to apprehend and subdue arrestees
  7. Withstanding prolonged exposure, as long as twelve (12) hours, to extreme weather conditions
  8. Withstanding prolonged periods of standing and sitting
  9. Withstanding frequent exposure to stress-producing situations such as encountering persons injured or killed by accidents, crimes or suicide
  10. Dealing with domestic disputes
  11. Dealing with verbal and physical abuse of the police officer, including taunts, insults, and threats to the officer, family members, or fellow officers
  12. Communicate effectively with individuals suffering from trauma
  13. Operate a motor vehicle for a long period of time
  14. Use a firearm effectively
  15. Fill out written reports in a clear and concise manner.

  • Experience: : Completion the Municipal Police Officer Education and Training Commission ACT-120 Police Academy
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • United States Citizen
  • High School Diploma or Graduate Equivalency Diploma
  • Possess a valid Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Operators License
  • Must be at least 21 years of age prior to 15 November 2013
  • Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
  • Shall have completed the Municipal Police Officer Education and Training Commission ACT-120 Police Academy
  • Selected candidates for employment must live within a 15 mile radius of the Borough Police Department within 12 months of completing their probationary period.
